Desalinating hard municipal water in Taylor BC

Between October 2023 and March 2024, Ionic Solutions undertook a pilot project with the District of Taylor in northern BC to demonstrate sustainable, a low-power water softening in one of Canada’s hard water communities.
Over the course of the pilot, our desalination trailer treated close to 50 million litres of water, reducing hardness by the required 58%, with a freshwater recovery rate of 85%. Energy consumption for the trailer was 9kWh/day or 0.043kWh/m3 of processed water, resulting in an operating cost of less than $3 per day, at full capacity.
The pilot, a partnership with the District of Taylor, demonstrated C-EDR as a viable and environmentally responsible solution for municipalities dealing with hard water challenges which include scaling and early-failure of appliances and plumbing fixtures, which can be costly for residents.
